Dear Vetrans , during your service period many a times you might have attended funerals of your colleagues and officers. It is very sad and emotional moment for each of us. I too have witnessed such occasion many times during my service carrier. One such moment I am going to narrate you.
It was in 1980s , I was working in 6sqn. AF Station Pune. It was having two flight, Canbera and Jaguar under the command of Grp. Capt. Mc Mehon. I was working with Jaguar flight. One fine day two Canbera A/C took off for the mission. After 40 minutes one of the A/C crashed in air due to bird hit. It was so vital impact that neither the pilot nor the navigator could eject out. Both died on the spot. The whole Sqn. was in shock, both the body was recovered in bad state. Funerals were conducted as per service with full honour. I was also detailed as a Pal Bearer.
After the accident the two flight A/C flown in full swing to keep up the morale of pilots and technicians , that is normal practice in the Airforce Aircraft Sqn. After so many years , still I have the remembrance of those sad moment. Long live the two souls of our great Airforce organization.
These types of accident and incident is normal in IAF, every year we loose number of A/C and highly skilled Pilots. But the spirit of our brave Pilots increasing every time. I salute them with the whole Nation .
Jaihind jaibharat vandematram.
